Look for places that are easy to access, both for visits from family and quick transport to medical facilities, which is a priority for elderly care.
Key Questions:
- Is it located near your family or social support network?
- Proximity to medical facilities / clinics / hospital of your choice?
- Is public transport or Grab service easily available when needed?
2. Facilities and Amenities
The facilities available in the retirement home are key to ensuring comfort and maintaining a good quality of life. Malaysia’s warm climate also makes it essential for retirement homes to have air-conditioning and comfortable communal spaces.
Key Questions:
- Can the rooms be customized to suit individual preferences? Some self-brought furniture if needed?
- Will a hospital bed with auto/manual crank be provided? With or without additional fees? How about ripple mattress?
- If an oxygen concentrator or oxygen task is required, will they be able to arrange for it? What’s the cost?
- Are there sufficient air-conditioning and ventilation? Especially in Malaysia’s warm and humid climate.
- What recreational spaces and/or activities are available?
- Are there Wi-Fi access and cable TV?
